Joanne Behan is a sculptor based in Clones Art Studio, Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. She graduated from Crawford College of Art, Cork with a B.A. in Fine Art, Sculpture in 1997. After some years of travelling and living in New Zealand and New York, USA . Joanne has setteld in her native County Monaghan and has one child. She worked for some years for Monaghan County Council as Public Art Manager and in Arts Administration.

Joanne is co-founder of Clones Art Studios where she is based since 2010. They have received significant funding to refurbish and equip the Old Victorian Post Office Building in the center of Clones into a truly unique workspace for artists. In the past year Joanne has curated and delivered a programme of master classes and talks for artists. She has many years experience of developing, coordinating and delivering creative programmes and projects within the community and education sectors including work as a Creatve Associate for the Arts Council’s creative schools initiative.

Joanne Behan’s work is predominantly bronze figurative. She enjoys the plasticity of working in clay and wax, creating figures that are caught in a moment and designed for a particular space. Joanne loves to fine tune her observational skills with life drawing and modelling figures and portraits directly from a life model. In her fragmented torso series, she experiements with form, shape and negative spaces which are landscape like in appearance. She eplores a variety of mediums in her work such as bronze, ceramics and glass. Most of her artworks are one off pieces or unique editions. Joanne exhibits her smaller sculptures and the larger pieces are commissioned based. Her work is in private and public collections.
