Size: 40cm high X 33cm Medium: Ceramic with Gold Leaf
This sculpture, titled “Isolation,” was inspired by stories of isolation and the lack of services available during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for vulnerable children. I enjoy exploring shape and form through figurative sculpture, focusing equally on negative and positive space. With this piece, I aimed to evoke emotion through its design and composition.
Originally, I created the sculpture in bronze. I loved the composition and scale so I created this ceramic version and it is glazed with a beautiful crystal green glaze which reminds me of our landscape. Where cracks appeared in the ceramic, I filled them with gold leaf, inspired by the Japanese art form of Kintsugi. This technique celebrates imperfections by mending them with gold, embracing flaws and showing how they make us stronger than ever.
